Westford Sports Updates

November 20, 2024: Sixth-grade students will be included in Westford's middle school basketball program for this season. The decision was made after reviewing the current situation, including participation numbers at Westford, ADL, and EMS, the challenges of transportation to the Co-Op school (EMS), and feedback from families.  Please note that this decision applies specifically to sixth-grade students. At this time, fifth-grade students are still encouraged to explore recreational or private league options that are better aligned with their developmental needs.

  • Team Composition: The EMS team has a large roster, while our team currently has smaller numbers. Including your sixth graders will create a more balanced and enriching experience for our athletes.

  • Transportation Challenges: We recognize that traveling to EMS for practices and games can create logistical difficulties for families, and this greatly influenced our decision to keep students closer to home.

  • Westford Recreation Department Impact: We understand this will negatively impact the ability of the Westford Recreation Department (WRD) to offer programs for younger students, as it has in the past.  We are truly sorry for this late decision.  Since WRD does not currently have a coach and your child was not part of their participant list to field a team this season, I’m hopeful the impact doesn’t exclude them from offering a program.

October 7, 2024: We are excited to announce our decision to offer sports teams for seventh and eighth-grade students in soccer and basketball, along with a co-ed volleyball team for fifth through eighth grade.
