On Monday, June 5th, Milton Middle School and Albert D. Lawton Intermediate School met at ADL for a year-end competition between the two teams. Both teams had spent the year learning about geography and cultures of the world in a number of ways, including games, quizzing, map studies, and more. Their curiosity about our world and current events was encouraged and this event gave them a chance to show off their knowledge. Coaches Katrina Antonovich (Milton) and Melanie Tupaj (ADL) creatively worked out their schedules to ensure these students had a chance to compete.
For 90 minutes, the two teams were quizzed about people, places, and geographical features around the world. It was the first time most of them had been involved in such a competition on account of Covid and they were up for the challenge. Many friends and families came to watch and it was so nice to be together again. Topics included Vermont, US capitals, Canada, South America, Asia, physical geography, and current events. Questions were multiple-choice, true-false, and open-ended. One round was a group effort, and another involved reading a map. It was a true team effort and it was a very close match. Milton was up by 4 points at the end of 4 rounds, but ADL caught up and by the end of 9 rounds, was 4 points ahead of Milton. The two teams battled it out through the very last round and it was clear that either team could win it.
And at the end of the final round, ADL was victorious by 1 point. Congratulations to all the students!
