ADL hosted its first school-wide Culture Day! This day was dedicated to exploring the culture and heritage of those in the school community. The most significant detail about Culture Day is that the initial idea and subsequent work were student-driven.
Students and staff were welcomed to dress in clothing representative of their heritage and then enjoy a sampling of foods from around the world. Then, all were invited to gather in the gymnasium to learn about the many cultures at ADL (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Native American Nations of Abnaki, Cherokee, and Chippewa) and watch student performances by Chloe DiRosa and Isabel Kahn. A special performance from Jeh Kulu ended the ADL Culture Day.
The origins of this day began in March of 2023 when ADL teacher, Amie Conger, met with a group of seven students to get input on how to have more cultural representation at ADL. Over time, 16 students in grades 6-8 worked with Amie to plan this day.
Thank you to CTE chefs Barton and Zimmerman, Toni Zimmerman and her Pilot Light Fellowship, Hamsatrou Mossi, the NorthCountry Federal Credit Union, and to the students for helping make this day a success.
