Matt Allen, EMS’ new interim assistant principal, joined EMS in August 2023. Mr. Allen comes from being the 504 and EST Coordinator at St. Albans City School. Prior to that, he was a 7th/8th-grade language arts teacher for 6 years. He holds a Master's Degree in Education and Administrative Licensing from Southern New Hampshire University and a B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado.
We asked Mr. Allen a few questions!
Q: What interested you about working for the EWSD?
MA: Honestly, the thing that drew me to this position comes down to leadership and the work the District has done and continues to do around equity. I know a few people in the District, and they all had nothing but positive things to say about the leadership and the direction of the District. Equity is something near and dear to my heart, so knowing that strong leadership was making it a top priority told me this was a place I would want to be doing this work.
Q: How have the first few weeks of school gone?
MA: It's been a busy first few weeks, but it's been great to be part of a school where so many people are willing to jump in and support each other. The changes we've made around schedules and the phone expectations, amongst other things, seem to be going well, and that's mostly because of the staff being so strong and flexible. Being brand new, there is a lot I have to learn, and the staff and families I've worked with have made me feel safe and vulnerable enough to do it. The students have been great, too!
