Welcome to First Grade

Hi First Grade Families!

I am so excited to share the upcoming school year with you! I am honored to have each and every one of you in my class this year and know that we are going to have a year filled with excitement, smiles, and lots of learning!

This year will be my fourth year at Summit Street School and my 16th year as a classroom teacher. My teaching journey has led me to teach every grade from 1st to 5th grade in three different states (Vermont, Illinois, and Virginia). Having grown up in Vermont, I was so happy when the opportunity arose for my family to move back a few years ago! I'm am excited to be teaching my favorite grade level in my favorite state!

When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my family. We have three children and a golden retriever puppy named Buddy. Our family loves to spend time exploring all of the nature our beautiful state has to offer. In the warmer months, we enjoy riding bikes, swimming, and hiking. In the cooler months, we enjoy building snow forts and skiing. Regardless of the weather, we love to play board games and read as a family! I can't wait to hear about all of your favorite things as we go through the school year!

Please reach out with any questions you may have throughout the year!

Schedule

Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!

Dear First Grader,

My name is Ms. Jacobs and I will be your teacher this year. I am very excited that you are in my class. This is my fourth year at Summit Street and I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you! I know we will all make many new friends this year and learn a lot from each other. This year is going to be a lot of fun!

How has your summer been? My family has been busy this summer. I have spent a lot of time exploring new hiking locations with my kids, Wesley who is 7, Emerson who is 5 and Noah who is 5 months old. We’ve also been taking our puppy, Buddy, along on our adventures. We love to find calm rivers and streams to throw rocks into and let Buddy try to find them! Our favorite summer activities have been gardening, riding bikes, eating ice cream and reading books under the shade trees. I can’t wait to hear about your summer adventures when we get to school in a few weeks!

I have also spent a lot of time this summer getting everything ready for you at school. I hope you are very excited about coming to school, but it is okay to be a little bit nervous, too. I have been teaching 1st grade for many years and I still get the first day jitters!

I am looking forward to a great year in first grade with you! Enjoy the rest of your summer! I’ll see you soon!

Sincerely,
Ms. Jacobs
