ADL Instructional Coach Amie Conger was recognized as the 2026 co-recipient of the Champlain Valley Educator Development Center's Innovative Leadership Award in honor of Ned Kirsch.

Conger serves as a magnificent driving force for student-centered education at Albert D. Lawton School by continuously elevating student voice, agency, and regional equity. She is the mastermind behind CREW (Community, Relationships, Engagement, and Well-Being), an incredible student-led service learning model.

Under her guidance, students have taken full ownership of their community by establishing local food pantries, securing environmental grants to plant trees, and volunteering with senior citizens. The profound impact of this program culminated in her students confidently presenting their achievements at the Vermont Association for Middle Level Education conference.

On May 28, ADL opened a time capsule that was originally buried on the school grounds in 1976. Students and staff gathered alongside alumni and community members to uncover the items preserved nearly five decades ago. ✨ In conjunction with the event, current students collected items to create a new time capsule that was buried in its place and will be opened 50 years from now.

The Paint Our Story event was part of a successful series of large and small events planned and supported by the EWSD Multilingual Advisory Council that took place this year. Artist and EWSD Multilingual Liaison Julio Desmont led a group of EWSD families and staff in creating a beautiful mural. The mural surfaces the story of how we each bring our unique, lived experiences towards the center of our community, and how the community also supports us. 🎨🖌️

Two ADL students, William and Rai, co-wrote a grant and were awarded $2000 through Unsung Heroes. They proposed planting trees around the Essex Junction community to improve the environment and mental health, and to bring more beauty to the community. They worked with the Essex Junction Tree Advisory Committee to figure out which trees to plant and determine locations. Then, they partnered with Hiawatha to plant some trees with the kindergarteners for Arbor Day.
