The Heavenly Food Pantry, located at the First Congregational Church on Main Street in Essex Junction will be open to families residing in Essex, Essex Junction, and Westford on Monday, August 14, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Families arriving through the front door will be given a number and asked to wait in the sanctuary for their number to be called, when they will be registered downstairs and then matched up with a volunteer who will help them make their food choices.
After the food is gathered, it will be weighed (information for pantry use only) and another volunteer will bring the food to the family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the pantry. As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is available to everyone; however, additional food is provided by the USDA to eligible once a
month to families who fall below federally mandated guidelines.
Families not able to attend the pantry may call the Church office at 878-5745 between 9:00 and noon today and Monday to leave contact information so arrangements for delivery can be made. Follow-up calls to complete registration will be made Monday morning. Families are currently able to visit the pantry each time it is open on the 2nd Monday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the 4th Thursday of the month from 2:00-6:00 p.m. (except for November and December when it is the 3rd Thursday). The next food pantry distribution will occur on Thursday, August 24 from 2-6 p.m.

The EWSD K-5 literacy leadership committee had an exciting opportunity to virtually meet with Kari Yates, a co-author of the best-selling book, Shifting the Balance: Six Ways to Bring the Science of Reading into the Balanced Literacy Classroom. When their number is called, they will be registered and introduced to a volunteer, who will guide them around the pantry while they select their food. Another volunteer will bring the food to the family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the pantry. As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is available to everyone; however, additional food is provided once a month by the USDA to eligible families who fall below federally mandated guidelines. Families not able to attend the pantry may call the Church office at 878-5745 between 9:00- noon today through Thursday to leave contact information so arrangements for delivery can be made. EES first graders presented their class projects on characters to their families and community! Each first grade class picked a character, and worked together on writing a poem pretending to be that character!
