What Do EHS School Counselors Do?
EHS school counselors are educators who help students succeed in school and beyond. They:
Have a master’s degree in counseling, and they maintain a valid Vermont educator license.
Design and use a school counseling curriculum (made up of evidence-based counseling activities) that support students' social, emotional, and academic growth (see the ASCA Student Standards: Mindsets and Behaviors).
Help students build important life skills like handling emotions, working well with others, and solving problems.
Guide students in setting academic goals, improving study and organization skills, and becoming better learners.
Support students in exploring career paths, setting future goals, and preparing for college, technical programs, and/or the workforce.
Use data to understand student needs and to provide short-term, personalized, and strengths-based support when needed.
Partner with teachers, school staff, families, and the community to advocate so that every student has access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.
EHS school counselors are here to help every student succeed by recognizing their strengths, supporting them through challenges, and guiding them toward their goals.
