Ms. Lee and Ms. Coviello’s class engaged in a mini poetry unit. The books Love That Dog and Hate That Cat by Sharon Creech were read- aloud to classes and used as an exploration poetry. Students were inspired by the main character, Jack, and published poets such as William Carlos Williams and Walter Dean Myers. Students wrote poems using alliteration, onomatopoeia, similies, metaphors, repetition, and rhyme. Next students made marbled paper using shaving cream and tempera paint and published their poetry in handmade books.
