AP Statistics student, Lily Larsen, placed third in a national data science competition, competing against approximately 2,500 students from around the country.
The competition challenged students to predictively evaluate a critical life question for many high school graduates: Which colleges or universities will give the greatest return on financial investment, or "pay off" the most? Students were given a large dataset from the Department of Education and used R code and state-of-the-art methods (including machine learning models) to accomplish the task.
