Senator Bernie Sanders announced the winners of the 14th Annual State of the Union Essay Contest for Vermont students!
EHS student, Leah Frisbie, won first place with her essay about the impacts of banning books from school libraries.
The essay contest is designed to engage Vermont's high school students on the major issues facing the country. Over the past thirteen years, over 5,700 students throughout Vermont have written essays about critically important issues, including climate change, racial injustice, access to mental health care, the state of our democracy, and more.

✅ Today is the day to vote! ✅ Starting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. the City of Essex Junction residents will vote at the Champlain Valley Expo, the Essex Town residents outside of the City will vote at Essex Middle School, and Westford residents will vote at Westford School.
All EWSD buildings & parking lots are closed to the public on Monday, April 8.

9th, 10th, and 11th grade students who are planning to participate in a summer enrichment program are encouraged to apply. The scholarship can be used toward registration and fees for camps, classes, special projects, etc.
Completed applications should be submitted to Maeve Murphy in the School Counseling Office or at mmurphy@ewsd.org. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with a final deadline of June 3, 2024.
Due to the 2-hour delay yesterday, we need to adjust our VTCAP testing schedule.
Friday, April 5th (B day) will be 9th grade (section 1) English and 11th grade Science (section 2).
The final day of testing will be on Tuesday, April 9th (B day), and will be 9th grade English (section 2).
Please note that this means block 1/2 begins at 10:00 am on Friday, April 5. Block 1/2 begins at 10:35 am on Tuesday, April 9.
AMN Cody Alexander, with the 158th Fighter Wing Security Forces Squadron, visited EHS to share information about Air Force Careers. Alexander graduated from EHS in 2023 and looked forward to sharing his experience with students and staff. He was joined by his colleague SSGT Kasey Bellerive. ✈️👏
There will be no buses for Westford students who attend the high school today, Thursday, April 4, due to the weather and roads. EHS and CTE will still be open and running on a two-hour delay.
Due to the 2 delay there will be no VTCAP testing today. All students should arrive for a 10:40 am start.
We will be using the 2 hour delay bell schedule. Today starts with block A 3/4 and end with A 1/2
Due to weather, the start of school will be delayed two hours, today, Thursday, April 4 for Albert D. Lawton, Essex Middle School, Essex High School, and the Center for Technology, Essex.
Buses will arrive two hours after their normal time (if the bus normally arrives at 7:15 a.m., it will arrive at 9:15 a.m.) and school will begin two hours later than the normal start time.

EHS/CTE hosted a Hiring Fair for all students! There were over 15 businesses and organizations represented with over 900 students who attended.
The 2024-25 EWSD school year calendar has been finalized. School districts in the Champlain Valley have committed to a regional calendar that includes 175 common school days. This means that all districts in Chittenden, Franklin, and Addison counties will follow a very similar schedule. Superintendents also agreed that all districts will start the school year on Monday, August 26, 2024.
