teacher of the year

Every year, the College of Education and Social Services (CESS) at the University of Vermont, together with Vermont supervisory unions and school districts, the Vermont Agency of Education, and the Vermont NEA, join to honor the accomplishments of our state’s outstanding educators.

This year, Jen Letourneau, English teacher was recognized as the 2023 EHS Teacher of the Year.

Fellow colleagues and friends of Letourneau spoke about her recent  accomplishment:

“While I have not had the privilege of observing (Jen) in the classroom, many of us have greatly benefited from (her) work in various leadership roles within the building. (Her) influence on the culture of EHS cannot be overstated. (Jen) is a constant ray of light, a voice of reason, and the kind of person who you would trust with any task or circumstance. (She) exudes positivity, demonstrates commitment, and puts forth uncompromising standards – all in a manner steeped in compassion and authenticity”.

“(Jen) deserves this honor because (she) goes above and beyond every day for students. Through my special education lens, (she) is a teacher who considers every student as an individual and will do anything in (her) power to give them every opportunity to be successful. (Jen) embraces all learners as their own”.

“She creates classroom routines supportive of SEL and executive functioning. She is a teacher who goes above and beyond to support all students and makes all students feel welcome, successful, and cared for”.

“This teacher is not only a friend of education, but she is first and foremost an educator. As an English teacher at Essex High School, she has taught students of all levels and abilities. She designed a Short Stories elective for juniors and seniors needing targeted instruction in reading and writing, and stepped in to work with students in RYSE”.

Congratulations to Jen Letourneau on being named the 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year!
