I Am Project

Westford kindergarten students have been working on a year-long project where they learned the importance of words and how to become a word collector.

At the beginning of the year, kindergarten families were asked to use three words to describe their child. The students then created self-portraits, and included the words their families chose - such as "inquisitive, funny, kind, and empathetic".

Students began their "I am" cards, inspired by their recent book readings. They thought of words to describe themselves, some connecting to the words families used at the beginning of the year.

Through their ongoing journey, they made connections to essential standards around speaking and listening, letter-sound relationships, and word awareness.

After creating their "I am" cards, students began thinking about, creating, and sharing "You are" cards with each other.  Here is the full I AM project slideshow.
