All five 5th-grade classes at Thomas Fleming School are participating in the Trout in the Classroom program, thanks to a generous grant from North Country Credit Union. This funding, in partnership with Trout Unlimited (TU), allowed the school to set up three 55-gallon aquarium tanks, where 300 trout eggs were delivered by Mark Manley, a former Thomas Fleming student and current TU volunteer.
The students in Ms. Guntulis, Mr. Guilmette, Mrs. Coviello, and Mrs. Cavalier’s classrooms will care for the trout as they grow from eggs to alevin, to fry, and eventually to fingerlings. The project will culminate with the fish release into the Mills River this Spring.
A big thank you to the North Country Credit Union and Trout in the Classroom, which provided the necessary equipment and supplies for this educational experience.
